Management of Acute Spinal Cord Injury: Fractures and Luxations
نویسنده
چکیده
Key Points Medical and surgical therapies should address both primary and secondary SCI. Nociception is a key prognosticator for outcome in SCI. Benefit of high dose corticosteroids is minimal and significant complications are possible. Surgery is indicated for paretic animals with intact nociception, animals with worsening neurologic status, or those with unstable fractures or spinal cord compression.

Spinal injuries and associated neurologic dysfunction are encountered frequently in small animal practice. Such injuries are most often the result of automobile trauma, or less commonly gunshot injuries, falls from heights, or animal abuse. The vertebral column has two distinct functions that become compromised in the injured animal and that must be considered in the diagnosis and management of...

Traumatic spinal cord injury is one of the important causes of disability.in some of vertebral fractures, spinal canal is deformed and compromised.the relationship between the shape of the cervical canal and spinal cord hnjury has been proved but such a correlation for thoraculombar spine 50 patients with compromised canal(cases) and 50 oatients with intact canal were evaluated in the light of s...

Acute spinal cord injuries commonly seen in veterinary patients include vascular, compressive, and concussive injuries. Vascular lesions, or infracts, are usually caused by fibrocartilagenous emboli. Concussive and compressive injuries have a variety of pathologies, including intervertebral disk disease, fractures, and luxations (dislocations) of the vertebral column. Although considerable cont...
متن کاملCellular and Molecular Mechanisms Involved in Neuroinflammation after Acute Traumatic Spinal Cord Injury
Introduction: Spinal cord injury (SCI) following traumatic events is associated with the limited therapeutic options and sever complications, which can be partly due to inflammatory response. Therefore, this study aims to explore the role of inflammation in spinal cord injury. The findings showed that the pathological conditions of nervous system lead to activation of microglia, astrocyte, neut...
